BATTERY FULLY AUTOMATIC FLOAT MAINT CHARGER, 13.5VDC @ 0-600ma(.6A

BATTERY GUARD FLOAT MAINT CHARGER, 13.5 VDC @ 0-600ma(.6A)

FULLY AUTOMATIC BATTERY GUARD FLOAT MAINT CHARGER with precise CPU-like voltage and current regulation.

These units ARE NOT Trickle Chargers! They are precision Float Maint Chargers.

Doesn't drain your battery down like other float chargers will if the 120VAC EDISON power source should fail, or if it gets turned off by accident. It has an LED ON indicator as a reminder.

Footnote here - The LED ON indicator will draw a small amount of batt DC current in the case of an AC power loss scenario, so it's always a good idea to remove any charger types from the battery source just as a precaution. That way the batt under Maint Float charging will always be at peak capacity.

It has Reverse Polarity and Over-temp protection, as well as short-circuit protection. The BATTERY GUARD float charger is precisely regulated at a stable 13.5-13.6VDC maximum output float voltage, and WILL NOT overcharge or damage any VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) size AGM or GEL CELL batteries. Note - Both these batt types are totally sealed, and cannot nor should not be serviced internally for any reasons!!

However, standard flooded lead acid batteries to be charged (whether Deep Cycle or Maint Free types) always need to be first checked and serviced internally "ONLY WITH DISTILLED WATER" for proper water level, as long as the service caps can be removed to do so!

FREE SERVICE TIP HERE - NOTE - Almost all Maint Free & Deep Cycle flooded lead acid batts can have those so-called sealed service caps torn off and replaced with standard serviceable batt caps taken off of any old discarded batt - just make sure you remove any & all small plastic (locking tab parts) that break off and fall into the batt cells. Use a MON-METALLIC plastic pair of forceps to remove the floating pieces by rocking the batt back and forth until all floating pieces are removed.

As an example - I once took a factory 36-month supposedly "Sealed Maint Free" type batt and replaced those locking service caps with the serviceable type caps, and I got over 52 total months of good service life out of that batt after it showed signs of supposedly being bad at or near that 36-month mark. Only problem with the batt was that the "water level" had gone down slightly below the top of the lead plates and thus lost it's capacity. Perfectly good batt - as no real damage or harm was done, and by adding distilled water to the proper level the batt went 52+ months instead of 36 months!! That's what they don't, or more properly WON'T tell you when you have your weak batt checked today!

That was a FREE TIP from me! Enjoy!

The BATTERY GUARD will constantly monitor the battery self-discharge current needs, and it automatically regulates the float current from a required design spec as low as 2ma (or near zero state) up to a maximum of 535-600ma at initial FLOAT CHARGE STARTUP depending on the battery (to be float maint charged) state of discharge. It will charge all types of 12VDC batts only - including all FLOODED LEAD ACID (whether Standard or Deep Cycle types), AGM, GEL CELL, and others for either home, car, motorcycle, RV, or marine applications. Just plug it in and forget it's there! Just that simple.

Btw - My 2 home Battery Guard float chargers are now going on over 11 years old, and they both work just as great today - to perfect specs I might add - as they did 11 years ago when I first got them.

Update as of 5-23-09: I went to check on one of my 40ah Yuasa AGM batts yesterday that was under float charge with one of my 2 float chargers and guess what? One of my 2 trusty float chargers had just died on me overnight. Not bad after 11 years of 24/7 daily use. That float charger’s No Load output had dropped down to approx 10 volts, as I always check the outputs daily to make sure the batts are being properly maintained. I put another brand new float charger into service today, and that Yuasa 40ah AGM batt is right back up to approx 13.50 volts just like it’s suppose to be. All is well again!

Footnote here:

I also modified one BATTERY GUARD to keep my 14.4vdc Black & Decker cordless drill Ni-CD battery pack properly maintained while it's not being used. It worked GREAT!! Even though the maximum maintained voltage would only be roughly 13.50 volts - the maximum maintained current would only be 2ma at best. Thus never hurting the/any batt pack itself, or ever allowing the individual cells to die - as from over-heating and crystallizing. The standard cheapy battery charger that comes with the cordless drill tends to overcharge the batt pack if it’s left on too long. The modified BATTERY GUARD will also work great with any 12-volt Ni-CD batt pack as well.

The reason I said it WORKED (as in past tense) great is because I sold that B&D 14.4vdc cordless drill set-up, and now have upgraded to a Ryobi 18-volt system which I like much much better! More power and more torque! Plus the stock 18-volt Ryobi "fast 1 hour charger" is 2nd to NONE as to its internal electronics! VERY WELL BUILT! Enough said there.....and btw I kept that modified BATTERY GUARD float charger just in case I ever need it for a 14.4 volt cordless tool batt application.

Continuing:

All flooded lead acid batts should first be properly topped off ONLY with DISTILLED WATER prior to being hooked up to the BATTERY GUARD.

NEVER USE TAP WATER!!!

If intending to leave any car/auto/marine type FLOODED LEAD ACID battery types on the BATTERY GUARD, or a FULL-ON HIGH RATE AUTOMATIC HOME/AUTO TYPE CHARGER, for many months or years at a time, I would suggest first adding (installing) a hydrogen gas-to-water recombination device to each battery cell to recover water loss. Usually you only have to add these in 'battery bank systems', or multiple battery groups where multiple batteries are being charged from solar (PV) photovoltaic or other recharging sources, such as wind generators, or hydroelectric generators where they are being used purely for inverter backup power.

An example of one such hydrogen gas-to-water recombination device is a AQUA-GEN SYSTEM.

An example of a continuous feed distilled water tender would be one similar to a FLOW-RITE BATT QUIK-FILL SYSTEM.

I am NOT endorsing either of these 2 products named above, but rather just giving you online examples for your own Internet searches.

I would also recommend first fully charging any intended battery(ies), to be stored or FLOAT MAINT CHARGED, with a home/auto FULLY AUTOMATIC TYPE CHARGER similar to say an analog type SCHUMACHER model# SE-520MA, or their newer SC-1200A FULLY AUTOMATIC SPEED CHARGER, which is a Microprocessor controlled switching type model. The latter having a de-sulfation mode if your battery is indeed sulfated to start with. Nice feature!

The WALMART model # is WM-1200A and cost is roughly $42 + tax. It works flawless and to perfect AGM battery specs I might add. I can also use it as well on all my other car/motorcycle type flooded lead acid batts because it is a FULLY AUTOMATIC selectable type charger for under $50. WALMART, SEARS, and other stores sell them as well.

I also have just recently added on a brand new Heavy Duty Schumacher "made for Sears" batt charger - Model # Diehard 71225 - that is also a Microprocessor controlled switching type 4-stage taper charger selling for approx $80. After testing and using this charger extensively with small (7ah) to large (100ah) size AGM batts I like it even better then my SC-1200A charger. The Sears Diehard model 71225 is now "my personal best choice" overall, and I will now be using it as my #1 choice in all my day to day batt charging applications!! The 71225 also has a de-sulfation mode if your battery is indeed sulfated to start with. Again - Nice feature!

When I say it's a Heavy Duty charger - I mean just that. It’s Heavy Duty and great quality inside and out! Not only does the huge XFMR inside bring the unit’s weight to a nice hefty 12.5 lbs, but the Electronics inside are very well engineered as well.

Note - I discarded the 2 supplied snap-in-place flimsy plastic 110VAC line cord organizers because they just kept getting bumped around a lot, and they just fell out too easily. Oh well…only weak part of the charger or the case design I could find. So instead I just coil and store both sets of input/output cord/cables in the generous storage bin area that’s built right into the back part of the charger’s case itself. Doesn’t interfere with the built-in XFMR temp cooling fan either!! Works/stores much better now! Those 2 huge alligator clips just clamp onto the back storage bin area where those 2 flimsy plastic pieces used to go and now works just great. See the Sears online specs or go to the Schumacher Home Page site to compare the specs there as well.

These are my 3 personal charger choices, which I use to recharge all my AGM type 12-volt batts including those that I use in my under-h2o scuba-diving equipment as well, and those larger AGM type batts that I use for all my computer UPS units, etc.

That latter 71225 Sears charger will also charge 6-volt batts as well - if I need it to. But it does so much more that I can't even begin to list everything here - so you will need to research that part for yourself either online, or in a Sears store near you.

You can email me if you need more specs or answers to any related ??'s regarding batteries or chargers, as I have an extensive background in ELECTRONICS REPAIR, as well as Battery Technology and Design Work using all types of batteries, as well as batt chargers.

THIS FLOAT CHARGER I'M SELLING HERE IS ONLY INTENDED TO CHARGE ONE LEAD ACID 12-VOLT BATTERY OFF OF ONE FLOAT CHARGER. PERIOD!

IT WILL NOT CHARGE ANY 6-volt BATTERIES!!

It is solely designed however to provide just enough output charging current regulation to keep your home, boat, car, motorcycle, solar, and RV 12vdc batteries freshly topped off during extended periods of non-use. Again, charging one 12-volt battery at a time per BATTERY GUARD that is!

It CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be used to try and maintain or recharge multiple, or parallel, 12-volt battery arrays. It is designed for, and meant to maintain ONE 12-volt battery at a time and only ONE 12-volt battery!

BATTERY GUARD float charger has a precisely regulated 13.5-13.6 volts DC maximum output voltage, and has an initial maximum startup output current of 535-600ma, that drops down to a perfectly regulated 2-3ma maintenance float current, which replaces the internal self-discharge current of any FLOODED LEAD ACID, AGM, GEL CELL, or other similar type battery rated at 12VDC and 5-185Ah.

I've done extensive testing & monitoring using these float chargers on AGM type batts, and the results were very, very impressive. GREAT performance for a float charger costing only $25.90 shipped, and that which I would compare far superior with others such as say the QUEST model costing $35 or more in auto parts and marine stores.

I've sold countless numbers of these chargers to date, and have NOT had a single one fail yet! One of my 11 year old float chargers dying like it did after that long a period of faithful service I don’t consider to be a failure at all, but rather just old age. So I guess they speak for themselves!

I myself personally have run the same 2 BATTERY GUARDS 24/7 on my 2 (DACOR SEASPRINT DPV underwater dive scooter) YUASA 24ah 12vdc AGM batteries that were going on 9+ years old, and those 2 AGM batts still carried a great charge that got me 1 hour or more underwater scooter run time!!

My underwater SEASPRINT DPV scooter motor current draw is approx 20 amps FULL ON under a full tow load too! I kept telling myself it's now past time to replace them with NEW batts, but with the proper care it's not impossible to get 10+ years use from a quality made AGM type battery. You just can't beat this BATTERY GUARD price and quality - as compared to some other supposed AUTOMATIC FLOAT CHARGERS costing twice as much!!

As of DEC 2007 I've since sold both those 9+ year old batts to a friend of mine, and replaced them with brand new ones of the same brand name. Those 2 old Yuasa batts are still working just fine so I'm told!

I'm also working on spec'ing & stocking 2 more small battery chargers that are going to be fully CPU controlled, and will be in either 12-volt & 24-volt model formats with a 2 Amp output MAX. They will be mainly intended for all the kid’s motorized street type scooters that are out there in today's market.

I will also be open to repairing your old defective chargers (if they can even be repaired), and/or upgrading your old charger's wire connector plug-ins to fit my new CPU controlled chargers. There will be NO CHARGE for the repairs if it's deemed your old charger is indeed NO GOOD. You will just have to pre-pay the shipping charges both ways is all, and I will be working out a blanket shipping cost in the very near future.

Watch for my NEW ADS with details on my new SCOOTER chargers! Coming very soon!

If you are local to Anaheim I can evaluate any of your electric scooter problems or concerns as well. Make sure you leave me a good local contact phone # with which to get back in touch with you if you are local to Anaheim. All others just need to email me here through my Epage.com ad site. Thx!!

I have long since canceled my acct at Craigslist and any ads I had running there, AND will no longer even use that LAME and otherwise worthless Craigslist site for anything! GOOD RIDDENS Craigslist lame flaggers & scumbags!!
