1961 Nash metropolitan Coupe

Its been called one of the 10 best collectible cars ever, with it's diminutive size, clown-car looks, and Fifties-style two-tone paint -- it could only be the Nash Metropolitan! Designed in Wisconsin and built in England, the "Met" was one of America's first subcompact cars. More than that, it helped to transform Nash Motors into the American Motors Corporation (AMC). Much like the modern smart fortwo, the Nash Metropolitan still has a strong cult following. Thanks to its adorable styling and admirable frugality, the Metropolitan was more successful as a conversation piece and fashion statement than as practical transportation. Still, it was America's first successful subcompact car. This was their series IV model Metropolitan and this particular car was built between May and June of 1960.
The "Metropolitan's staying power and its never-ending cuteness" have earned it "a place among the Greatest Cars of All Time" in the opinion of automotive writer Jack Nerad, a former editor of Motor Trend magazine.
Notable people who own or have owned metropolitan's are Jimmy Buffett, Bridget Fonda, Greg Gutfeld, Steve Jobs, Princess Margaret, Paul Newman, Elvis Presley, Graham Stark and "Weird" Al Yankovic.
This car is a 1961, which was the last year for the Metropolitan with only 853 shipped to the US and 116 sent to Canada making the total shipped 969.
The engine is a 1500cc, 4 cylinder capable of getting 39mpg at moderate speeds. The transmission is a 3 speed standard column shifter. It is equipped with a working original AM radio and "weather eye" heater. It even has it's original NY license plates which can be used on the road and are included with the sale of the car ($24 a year to renew). Note: In 1961 they used 1960 plates with a "61" tab covering the "60"on the rear plate only. Insurance is only costing me $43 a year through Haggerty classic insurance- with full coverage!
It has just passed the NYS inspection with no problem. All fluids have been changed and are at proper levels. There is no rust on this car because it was in an indoor heated location for many years. The undercarriage has been carefully cleaned and heavily coated with a truck bed liner coating which will keep it rust free for many years to come. Everything is original and in working condition. Runs, drives and brakes well. Carpets and seats are in excellent condition. All 5 tires have excellent matching tread. The grille surround moldings, front and rear bumpers (with guards) are brand new. All locks work. Parts are readily available for this car from several good sources should you ever need any in the future.
